Power restored in Toledo after morning outages

TOLEDO,  OH (TOLEDO, OH) - Power has been restored after several neighborhoods were in the dark early Wednesday.

More than 10,000 homes and businesses were without electricity. Point Place had most of the outages, but north Toledo and east Toledo were also affected. At first, emergency responders did not know what was causing the situation.

According to the Coast Guard, a high-voltage power line that crosses the Maumee River broke and fell into the river, which caused a transformer to blow.

All boating traffic was stopped. There was one school delay in Point Place.

Crews worked several hours to make sure the area was safe. They say no one was ever in danger. First Energy officials say power was restored around 8:15 a.m.

The Coast Guard is still investigating.
