Perrysburg residents may vote to replace TARTA

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) - Perrysburg residents may choose to favor a new transit service that will replace TARTA. They will have the choice at the polls on whether they want to approve a 1.45 mill levy which will bring in the company 'Ride Right' to provide service.

Councilman Todd Grayson said other than some anonymous phone calls he has not received one formal complaint on the current call-a-ride service.

Should the levy pass the city will add a fixed route service, Paratransit and keep the call-a-ride. Originally designated for only disabled residents, now all residents can use call-a-ride.

As co-chair of Perrysburg 4 Transit, Gil Lutz has been singing the praises call-a-ride and ride right in comparison to TARTA.

"The people of Perrysburg have always supported public transportation. The issue was the amount we're paying. We've now proven that we can get a very very good service in fact an improved service for half the money we were paying before, so it's a bargain," said Lutz.

"Ultimately we picked a less expensive contractor than our top millage that we chose allowed for so ultimately we'll be able to, over the next couple years, collect less than that 1.45 mills going forward which will be an even bigger savings to the Perrysburg taxpayer," said Grayson.

The health, sanitation, and public utilities committee will meet Tuesday night to finalize a contract with Ride Right.
