BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) - Dwayne Woods, a member of the Bowling Green State University football team, has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week.
This comes after his efforts in a 24-0 win at the University of Massachusetts. The announcement was made by the league office Monday afternoon.
Woods finished the game with two tackles, a pass breakup and a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Falcons first shutout since Nov. 6, 2004, a 52-0 win vs. Western Michigan.
BGSU held UMass to just 118 total yards, forced four turnovers and allowed the Minutemen to convert just 1-of-16 third down attempts. Of UMass' 15 drives, the Falcons forced a 3-and-out or a turnover in 10 of those possessions.
This is the fifth time this season the Falcons have earned MAC East Defensive Player of the Week honors. Senior Chris Jones has won the award three different times, while Ryland Ward earned his first career player of the week honor in the win vs. Akron.
BGSU's defense ranks first in the MAC in scoring (16.8), total defense (304.0), rushing (109.2) and passing (194.8).
