New retirement home coming to Perrysburg creating 120 jobs

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) - A new retirement community is coming Perrysburg and with that comes 120 jobs that need to be filled.

Saint Clare Commons is in first phase of the project but as the project continues, there will be hundreds of new openings available to the community.

"Housekeeping, laundry personnel, food service personnel, and then you get into your professional personnel, which will be licensed practical nurses. We will also be hiring a nurse practitioner and we'll also be involved with the medical community with physicians and physician assistants," said executive director Shawn Litten.

The Catholic assisted living center is set to open in July of 2013. Hiring will begin as early as January of next year.

"The application will be up in the next month or so and people can start sending resumes, and we already have a nice stack of resumes looking for employment," said marketing director Jessica Derkis.

A variety of experience is needed for these positions.

"Some of the people will actually come in and be trained here on site because they will not have any experience but wanted to service people, which is great. Other people will have four year college educations, and some, our nurse practitioner will most likely even be a graduate from, a graduate of a graduate program. So it's a full gamete of educational backgrounds," said Litten.

The first phase of the project includes nursing units, and assisted living suites. The community will expand and will include independent housing, apartment buildings and even a community center.

"Well I love the idea that we are providing jobs. St Clare Commons is really a boom to the entire Perrysburg community, northern Wood County I would say the whole area," said Father Herb Weber, Pastor at Blessed John Parish.
