Crews respond to fire at Toledo Islamic Center

PERRYSBURG TWP., OH (Toledo News Now) - Authorities are investigating a fire at one of the most recognizable buildings in Northwest Ohio.

The state fire marshal and Perrysburg Township detectives are investigating a fire at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo.

Early Sunday evening firefighters were called out for a report of smoke in the second floor prayer room.

The center has significant smoke and water damage.

Firefighters initially had a hard time finding the source of the smoke.

"It's basically a maze in there. Lots of rooms locked and secured. It was difficult for the guys to get into certain areas to locate where the fire was. It was time consuming," said Chief Tom Brice of the Perrysburg Township fire department.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has been called in to help with the investigation which is the usual procedure for a fire at a place of worship.
