Press conference called regarding Issue 5

Last week there was a press conference called to talk about Issue 5, better known as the Recreation Tax.  The property tax, if approved, would raise about $3 million dollars.

The money will be spent on Parks, Recreation and Forestry.  According to supporters this levy replaces monies which currently come out of the general fund.

Taxpayers are assured that all existing general fund money will be re-directed to other worthwhile purposes, as yet undefined.  There is no mention of a reduction in taxpayer obligations.

If you don't like the sound of that, then you should press for more information before you vote.  If they are going to spend your tax dollars you should know what you are getting in return.

If one of the Recreation tax supporters would like to do an editorial and explain why this is a good thing for taxpayers, give me a call.  We'll give you the opportunity.

The recent decision of ProMedica's Board of Trustees to enter into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network, Toledo's last remaining abortion facility, just doesn't make sense.
