New building to be built on former Jeep Parkway site

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The former Jeep Parkway site has a new name, the Overland Industrial Park. Soon it will have a new building on the land to attract new employers.

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has entered into a development agreement with the Harmon Family Development Corp., to split the cost of construction on a building. Work is expected to start in the Spring of 2013.

"We have a total of 5 million square feet nationwide. This project is exciting. It's going to be good for us and it's going to be good for the community," said Ed Harmon.

Plans call for the port to finish infrastructure work before vertical construction begins.

"We have roadway to get in. Water and sewer we have to get in. We're also putting in a rail line we can add that transportation asset in this first building," said Matt Sapara with the Port Authority.

"By the time the infrastructure is in place we feel very confident it will have tenants or a tenant for the first building and buildings after that," said Harmon.

With its proximity to Chrysler's Toledo Assembly Complex, the hope is to attract auto suppliers, as well as other manufacturing companies and those specializing in logistics and distribution.

It is estimated the redevelopment could total $20 million.
