2 significant developments in Ohio healthcare

There were 2 fairly significant developments in local healthcare this past week. Promedica's Fostoria Community Hospital opens a newly renovated and expanded cancer treatment and infusion center.

With nearly double the space, more patients will receive state-of-the-art care. The facility represents a $700,000 investment in Fostoria, making patient care as convenient as possible.

On another front, Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center physicians performed the first robotic gastric sleeve procedure in the Toledo area. The demands for gastric sleeve operations have increased by 13 times since 1992.

This is what we have become accustomed to. Modern, spacious, patient-centered facilities, upgraded technology, and advancements in medical care that improve outcomes. Yet healthcare is changing in an unprecedented way and at an unprecedented pace.

There is way more that is unknown than known about what healthcare will look like in 10 years. We have come to expect the best care in the best facilities.

We are used to advancements like those in Fostoria and St V's. Each of us should be asking our Congressional representatives this question, "Are you sure that we will be treated this well in the future?"
