SANDUSKY, OH (Toledo News Now) – Prosecutors have released new details in a weekend triple homicide in Sandusky.

Heather Jackson, 23, and her two children were found dead inside their Sandusky home Saturday night. According to the Erie County Coroner, Jackson, her 3-year-old daughter, Celina, and 18-month-old son, Wayne, all died of ligature strangulation. Authorities say it may have been done with clothing and a blanket.

"Some ligature, looks like clothing, apparel, a blanket in one case for the children. There was a ligature used. It doesn't look like it was manual with hands, but an instrument of that nature was used," said Erie County Prosecutor Kevin Baxter.

Now, prosecutors say an autopsy shows Celina sustained injuries consistent with sexual assault. They say further tests are required to determine if Jackson was raped.

Prosecutors have charged Curtis Clinton, 41, with three counts of aggravated murder in the case. Baxter says the investigation will need more time to determine if Clinton will face additional charges.

"In this particular situation, we have a couple of individuals, victims under 13 years of age. That's important because that may be a death penalty specification, as well as the fact you have two or more victims," said Baxter.

As a collection of stuffed animals and other keepsakes continues to build outside the house, the Baxter says investigators are carefully reviewing evidence collected inside.

"BCI has collected with a fine-toothed comb. We've got evidence. It just takes time for that evidence to be examined and analyzed, and show any linkage or collaboration of any charges," explained Kevin Baxter.

Clinton is also facing rape charges for a separate sexual assault that happened five days before the murder. According to police, another woman has also come forward saying she believes Clinton is the man who sexually assaulted her earlier this summer.

A grand jury will be convened next week to formally indict Clinton. It will be determined at that time whether Clinton could face the death penalty in the case.
