UT awarded $3 million for biofuel research

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The University of Toledo has been awarded $3 million in funding from the United States Department of Energy for biofuel research.

The project will study the use of algae as a biofuel, and look into the use of agricultural waste in the development of that fuel. The grant is part of a $6.3 million Department of Energy program, which will support three research projects.

"Our nation must end our dependence on foreign oil.  This project allows us to apply the waste of one local industry to support the production of a renewable, domestic fuel source," said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur in response to the announcement.
