Rebuilt Lake school gets rave reviews from community

LAKE TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - They called it a 'Welcome Home' ceremony.

The new Lake High School officially opened it's doors Sunday to students, staff and everyone in the community.

It's a 25 and a half million dollar miracle paid for with insurance money, private donations and grants.

Not a single taxpayer dollar was spent.

"We knew it had to be done and didn't allow ourselves to look back. We've been very confident since day one," said District Superintendent Jim Witt.

The building replaces the school destroyed two years ago by a killer tornado, something not forgotten during a prayer offered by Board President Tim Krugh.

"Dear God, we praise you and thank you for this gift. A gift we did not seek out but one we should now embrace with open arms. Amen," said Mr. Krugh.

The long, open main entrance to the school is already nicknamed by students "The Runway."

"Oh my God. It's beautiful. I never imagined it would be this awesome," said student Caty O'Conner.

The big buzz among students is the spacious, state of the art auditorium.

For many, the gym offers a "wow" factor, a place to cheer on the Lake Flyers basketball team on cold winter nights.

The new science labs also recieved rave reviews.

"It's pretty cool. I like it," said Kristen Smith.

The school opens for classes the third week in August.
