Evidence presented in Clarke-Straub murder trials

Evidence is being presented against Samuel Williams and Cameo Pettaway, the men accused of killing a Springfield Township couple back in January 2011. Evidence is being presented against Samuel Williams and Cameo Pettaway, the men accused of killing a Springfield Township couple back in January 2011.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The parents of a Lucas County murder victim took the stand Monday against both of the men accused in their daughter and her boyfriend's murder back in 2011.

Prosecutors spent time asking Lisa Straub's parents about their habits and rules they had for their daughter and her boyfriend while they were living in the home. They showed pictures to the jury of a cigarette found in the home by the bodies, and said it has both Cameo Pettaway and Samuel Williams' DNA on it.

Mary Beth Straub kept her composure on the stand. She explained the cigarette butt was very unusual because her daughter, along with her boyfriend and friends, knew there was no smoking allowed inside the home. People would have to smoke outside.

Straub confirmed she had never previously found stray cigarette butts inside the home. She also said there were no ashtrays inside the home.

There are two separate trials for Williams and Pettaway, the men accused of murdering the Springfield Township couple.

So far in Williams' trial several witnesses were called to the stand, establishing relationships and discussing how they knew the victims. Drug use was brought to attention by the witnesses, who were friends of the couple. Some of the friends took the stand in both trials.

Prosecutors in both courtrooms set the scene for the jury, regarding what the couple did the night of the murder.

Both cases are scheduled to continue Tuesday.
