Child found in Oregon pool pronounced dead at hospital

OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) – A boy who had been reported missing Monday and was later found in a pool and rushed to the hospital has died, according to Oregon Police Chief Mike Navarre. Navarre says the boy was just under 2 years old, and would have turned 2 on August 23.

Local law enforcement began searching for young Frasier Burt after he was reported missing by his grandfather. The grandfather says he went to use the restroom and when he returned he could not find the boy.

Police say the boy was found floating in a neighbor's pool and is believed to have been in the water for 30 to 35 minutes.

Police say the neighbor had taken all the proper precautions to avoid a tragedy like this. There was a fence around the yard and a solar cover was on the pool.

Police say winds from a storm that passed through northwest Ohio Monday may have blown the gate open.

"Accidents happen and this was a very tragic accident. I'm not at this point saying it could have been prevented, but it's real important that folks pay extra special attention when they have swimming pools, especially in the summer because children are drawn to the water," said Navarre.
