City of Findlay celebrates Bicentennial

Happy Birthday Findlay! On Thursday night, thousands crammed Main Street for a parade to celebrate the city's Bicentennial.

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Happy Birthday Findlay! On Thursday night, thousands crammed Main Street for a parade to celebrate the city's Bicentennial.

Findlay is rich in history. It was actually named after Army Col. James Findlay who established Fort Findlay while leading troops to Detroit during the War of 1812.

"This place was pretty wild back then. They established a fort here to act as a supply post and place for the troops and travelers to rest," according to Bicentennial Committee member Todd James.

Today, Findlay is a thriving community. Parade organizers say residents will always pull together during the good times and the bad.

A series of events throughout the summer will promote the city's heritage.

"Findlay I think holds a special place in Northwest Ohio. We're excited about showcasing all of our history, especially the community spirit of Findlay," says James.

And what better way to showcase that spirit than with a parade.
