OH man survives after hitting side of train

ANNA, OH (ONNTV/WHIO) - An 18-year-old Anna, OH man is in a Lima hospital after police said that he drove his SUV into the side of a train.

It happened early Monday morning, WHIO news out of Dayton reported.

Police said that the man drove around the crossing gates which were flashing and ringing, and drove into the side of the southbound CSX freight train.

Police said that the man hit the 102nd car of a 152-car train. Upon impact, the vehicle caught fire.

The crew never realized the train had been hit, and continued on their trip.

The train was finally stopped at Piqua and the crew was notified.

Speed limit along that section of track is 50 miles per hour.

The SUV was destroyed, but the man suffered an arm injury and stomach pain.
