TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A massive fire destroyed two vacant homes early Friday, and investigators are calling it another case of arson.
It happened around 1 a.m. in the 800 block of Mulberry Street near Dove Lane.
When firefighters pulled up to the scene, flames were already shooting out of two vacant, boarded-up homes.
Fire officials say someone set fire to a house next to the alley, which then quickly spread to the neighboring abandoned house.
It only took minutes for the heavy fire to burn completely through the first house. Crews went into a defensive mode to try and save a nearby occupied home by dousing it with water.
Neighbors are thankful for the fire department's quick response, but frustrated with the individual who is putting their lives and homes at risk.
"There's gotta be someone out here setting them. Someone burnt us. Somebody trying to sell the wire. Or goin' into set them just to do it, to have fun," said one neighbor.
Neither house has had any utilities hooked up in years. Both homes were a total loss and were torn down by city demolition crews early Friday morning.
This is yet another arson in a series of suspicious fires this week. The others were in east Toledo and south Toledo.
