ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) - Rossford is preparing for the development of an indoor shooting range. It will be part of the entertainment district off Fremont Pike.
Rossford has already given its approval. Now it is tying up loose ends.
Council recently changed a city law that previously banned the discharge of firearms in the area, but the owner of the new shooting range Hotshots 45 said there is still work to do.
The range's design is still in the beginning stages. Once the site is more developed, owner Scott Maxwell will bring plans to the Small Business Association. Maxwell will also need to meet federal requirements.
Maxwell said his focus for the business will be personal protection and home defense, which is why the shooting range will offer classes and sell weapons. Maxwell said it will fill a void for the city.
As part of Rossford's entertainment district, the Maxwell said his shooting range will help boost the area's economy.
"We have had so much positive response to what we're doing, and I think that just bringing the people in from the outlining areas to this area, I think will help Rossford a lot. We're expecting a lot of people to come in and take our classes and use our range," said Maxwell.
The shooting range is expected to open by the end of this year.
