PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - Perrysburg Township Police were on the scene of a stabbing early Thursday morning and believe they have arrested the man responsible.
It happened just after 2:30 Thursday morning at the Evergreen Apartments on Oregon Road.
"Around 2:40 this morning, we received a call from an individual who stated he was stabbed up at Evergreen Apartments," said Det. Sgt. James Gross.
Gross said Terrence L. Sandridge II, 24, stabbed Daniel Schmidt, 37, in the stomach and then tried to flee in his car.
The suspect did not get very far from the apartment complex. Police had him surrounded right on Oregon, which is when they found what appeared to be the knife used in the attack laying in the grass next to the car.
Police said Schmidt is the uncle of two girls that live in the apartment.
Investigators said he came there and then got into some sort of argument with Sandridge. That is when Sandridge pulled out a knife.
Schmidt called 911 from a cell phone.
When crews arrived they rushed Schmidt to the hospital, where he had an emergency surgery.
"He came through surgery. However, his condition is still serious," said Gross.
Sandridge was arrested and charged with felonious assault for the stabbing.
Neighbors are surprised by the violent attack.
"It's a little bit of a surprise to me. It's a good area of town and there's not a lot of crime out here to see going on, especially a serious crime like this," said Paul Garland.
Sandridge is currently being held in the Wood County Jail on $75,000 bond. He will be back in court next week.
