UT awarded $1.9 million for med student training

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – The University of Toledo is one of 6 universities chosen by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to receive money from the state's Medicaid program in an effort to better the care of Medicaid patients throughout the state.

The program will pair universities and clinics in Ohio to provide better training to medical students.  UT will receive $1.9 of the $10 million appropriated for the project.

Students will have the opportunity to use a simulation center designed to imitate certain conditions and interact with real patients.

"Patients who are recovering or who have recovered from mental illness and are productive functional individuals in our community are there to help be the teacher, to help the student understand that lived experience," said Timothy Gaspar with the university.
