TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Dana Holding Corporation is planning to close its plant in Toledo, which could mean dozens of layoffs. The plant is located along Matzinger Road in north Toledo.
A letter sent by Dana Corporation to the Ohio Office of Workforce Development provides notice that the company is planning to permanently lay off 37 workers. The letter said the company could close the plant August 16.
The plant is Dana's last remaining production facility in the city of Toledo. The plant produces driveline components for the company and most of the people losing their jobs are technicians.
Dana officials said the closure is happening because a customer decided to change suppliers.
There is no word yet what the company plans to do with the facility, which is located in City Councilwoman Lindsay Webb's district.
Webb said she is sorry to hear about the loss of jobs and hopes Dana works with the city to help find a future use for the site.
"Matzinger Road is quite the little corridor for industrial development, and with the expansion of the Jeep plant, I'd like to know what Dana's intentions are for that particular facility," said Webb.
A spokesperson would not say much about the decision, except that it is company policy to try to place affected employees at other locations. The company does plan to provide separation benefits.
