Area leaders attend casino opening

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – The Hollywood Casino Toledo was packed with local VIPs ready to cut the ribbon on $300 million facility Tuesday.

Several hundred people were invited to attend the ribbon cutting for Hollywood Casino Toledo. City councilman Adam Martinez was one of them and loved what he saw:

"Just the art deco, the 1930s Hollywood theme.  Very impressive.  They did a wonderful job.  The craftsmanship is unbelievable.  Very impressed. I lived in Vegas for about a year and a half.  Not much of a gambler, but I did tour the casinos and I think this rivals Las Vegas."

Some people think the casino will bring in prostitution and other crimes like car break-ins, but Sheriff James Telb says that won't be an issue:

"We've worked with the security folks here and we feel that it's gonna be a nice safe place for people to come and enjoy themselves."

Former Ohio state representative Jeanine Perry even dropped in to check things out for herself:

"My son wanted me to check out the buffet.  My husband told me to check out the sports bar."

Perry says what she likes the most is the nearly 1300 jobs the casino created, and she knows some of the people hired:

"To have a couple of young people come up to me, students that I've had in the past and they're working here, they're happy and say it's a great place to work and really that's what it was about, the jobs."
