Area transportation services prepare for casino passengers

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – Toledo transportation businesses are expanding to make your trip to Hollywood Casino Toledo easier.

The casino parking garage provides free parking, however, businesses such as Checker Cab and TARTA are excited for the new customers the casino will bring.

"Sometimes they're kind of slow at night but this is going to change. this is a game-changer. and they're going to be much busier at night," Checker Cab owner Bill Roubanes explained, adding the company is putting 15 new cabs in service and hiring more drivers because of the casino.

The company's calls doubled during Thursday's soft opening. At one point, 5 cabs were heading to the casino, and the company's owner hopes it keeps up.

TARTA says the casino is good for them also. For just a dollar, you can catch a bus at a new TARTA bus stop just outside the parking garage. The casino requested the stop; anticipating about 200 employees will use the service each day.

"We've been looking at restructuring on the east side and providing better service on the east side and we thought this was a win-win for us to make this happen," said Tom Metzger of TARTA.

Buses will take riders to the main TARTA stop downtown during service hours. At first, call-a-ride service will pick riders up every hour.  The casino will become part of a regular route June 10. TARTA may send extra buses the first week.
