TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Affordable senior housing is being targeted at the location of the former Warren Elementary School in Central Toledo.
The mayor's office has forwarded legislation to council, to consider selling the city-owned Warren Park to Warren AME Church Housing Opportunities Inc., to build a 32-unit senior housing complex.
The measure calls for the city to receive $32,000, which would be earmarked for relocating and replacing playground equipment at nearby Inez Nash Park.
"The site is currently two-thirds owned by TPS, one-third by the city. The third owned by the city has a small park in it with play equipment, this would need to make way for the new housing development," says Toledo Deputy Mayor Tom Crothers.
The land transfer would allow the non-profit housing group to secure financing for the project and set a construction schedule.
