TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Doctors say the Da Vinci SI Surgical Robot is the most up-to-date surgical platform, and it has now made its debut in northwest Ohio at Mercy St. Vincent's hospital.
The Da Vinci SI is famous for its precision. It is Mercy St. Vincent's third machine, creating the robotic surgery center.
The hospital started with robotic surgery back in 2003, and has seen close to 1700 cases since then.
However, the Da Vinci SI has taken robotic surgery to the next level for the hospital. It can be used for a variety of cases, including cardiac surgery and urology surgery.
A high quality camera gives surgeons a clear view of what they're doing, and fluorescence lighting gives doctors the ability to see things like tumors clearly.
Two surgeons can use it at the same time, which makes it ideal for training.
Mercy St. Vincent's Director of Robotic Surgery Doctor Mirza Baig says this will change the way surgery is done in the area:
"We're going more and more minimally invasive to allow patients to have smaller incisions, less pain, less scarring, less blood loss, quicker recover. So we've really led the way here in northwest Ohio for robotic surgery."
The Da Vinci SI made its surgical and manicured debut in early March.
