TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Hollywood Casino Toledo hosted a media day Monday to give a first look inside the building.
The loading dock is one of the busiest areas at the casino as deliveries are still pouring in.
The gaming floor is 125,000 square feet with 60 tables featuring games like Blackjack and Roulette.
"We'll probably start out with $15 to $20 tables and if it gets to be busy, we'll probably raise them up a little more than that," said Neil Perry, table games director at Hollywood Casino.
The casino also features a poker room with 20 tables and a high stakes area, where the table games will have minimum bets of $50 dollars or higher.
The majority of the business is expected to come through the 2,002 slot machines wagering from 1 cent to $100.
"Our machines are very competitive to the other markets in the area. You're going to enjoy yourself while you're here," said Brian Hopkins, slot operations manager.
During the media preview tour, casino employees were polishing their dealing skills.
"As you can see behind me, we're just getting ready. Currently, all of these dealers that have been putting in their own personal time, they're out here practicing, and they're just getting excited. Before the 29th, we have to get through our demonstration day on the 24th. That's help for the state so they can kind of see and be happy with everything that's going on within the facility. It also helps us as an additional practice day before we get launched on the 29th," said VP of Marketing Jason Birney.
The "soft open" event May 24 is invitation only.
While the casino made sure there was a grand entrance for those using valet parking, the main "wow factor" at Hollywood Casino Toledo is focused at the point where most visitors will be coming in: the self-parking garage. Those who use the self parking and walk into the casino will see the gaming floor with video screens galore, plus look straight towards the casino lounge.
"It is a wow factor if you look at the serpentine wall right behind. We have the H-Lounge with a stage. We're going to have bands going seven days a week," said Mike Galle, assistant general manager.
With more than 200 TV screens and 5,000 light fixtures, the casino will offer plenty of visual stimulation for its customers. The Hollywood theme is also evident with plenty of nostalgic photos of famous movie stars.
"We have TVs everywhere. We added to that - during the time we have before opening - we added to our audio-video package. Now what you're going to see 360 wraps throughout the casino on top of all the LED-LCD TVs we have," explained Galle.
Besides aiming to provide an exciting gaming environment, Hollywood Casino Toledo is also focusing on giving its customers an excellent culinary experience. Options will include Epic Buffet, Scene sports bar and grill, Final Cut Steak and Seafood plus Take Two Grill. There will also be live entertainment seven days a week at the H Lounge.
All of this is under one, smoke-free roof.
"Lots of casinos you go into, you smell that instantly. When you walk into the casino floor, you smell that cigarette smoke. It's not going to be smoking. It's never been smoking," said Galle.
With an estimated $270 million invested in the casino itself, managers said customer service will be a big factor in making visitors become regular customers.
"Our team - 90 percent local hire - they are very excited. They put in a lot of time on their own. They've been going through extensive training our last month and a half," said Galle.
The grand opening is set for May 29.
