TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Conventions can be a major source of revenue for cities, often attracting hundreds, if not thousands, of people. Toledo is hoping to put itself on the map for conventions.

Destination Toledo is using Hollywood Casino as a selling point for organizations trying to determine where to hold their conferences.

The president of Destination Toledo said it is working.

For example, about a year ago the Heartland Travel Showcase booked its 2013 convention in Toledo. Officials said the casino served as a major selling point and it worked. The company decided to bring its business to Toledo for the first time in more than 25 years.

Destination Toledo officials said they have seen a lot of people coming for one reason, but booking a day or two extra for another: to see the casino.

"It's a great new arrow for our quiver. We're excited to have another tool to sell both downtown and the Toledo region," said Richard Nachazel, president of Destination Toledo.

Downtown hotels are also catering to the convention crowd by offering shuttles to and from the casino.

The City of Toledo is apologizing to a man after they billed him for cutting grass on public property near his home.  Anthony Davis and his wife have lived in their home in south Toledo since 1995. The grass in the cul-de-sac outside their home is often overgrown. Davis normally does not mind cutting it himself.  "Just so that we don't look like we're living in some type of jungle or something," Davis said. However, recently the grass grew up to his knees.
