Area hotels prepare for casino opening

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) – Hotels in the Toledo area say they are ready for the new business that will come along with the Hollywood Casino Toledo.

The casino opens May 29, and hotels are looking forward to the increase in business the casino will bring.

The Grand Plaza in downtown Toledo has been working closely with the casino to provide perks for customers of both. The casino will be providing a shuttle service to and from the hotel, as well as a special rate on Grand Plaza rooms.

"We're on their website and there's a link so they can go to us and there's a promo rate they get if they're a customer of theirs. They get a special rate that they can book if it's available and we're not sold out and stay here and that their shuttle to and from the casino," said Grand Plaza Hotel General Manager Jim Koen.

The Days Inn hotel is closest to the Hollywood Casino, and they hope that puts them at an advantage.

"We are very excited. We have increased our staff in anticipation of the new business. We have, the manager has put in over a million dollars in the last year into the hotel in renovations," said front desk clerk Melissa Patrick.

The general manager at the Days Inn is also working with the casino to provide a shuttle service and additional specials for their customers. Both hotels have already received reservations in preparation for the casino's opening.
