PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) – Perrysburg will be getting some new tennis courts just in time for summer, and the community says the project was badly needed.
Perrysburg already has a tennis facility with four courts, but with a high demand from a growing population, the city says that wasn't enough, which is why five new tennis courts are going up at the Rotary Community Park.
The city says construction is moving quickly, and should be complete by mid-June. At that point, schools and others in the community will be able to use the courts right away.
The tennis courts are pieces of a bigger effort to improve the park. Other recent projects include walking trails and new soccer fields.
City workers say they couldn't put the tennis courts off for long, because the area is growing quickly, and demand for the sport is going up.
"It's nice to have stuff, you know, across town. With the growth that we have on the west side of town we felt the need to expand our facilities to that side of town also," Superintendent of Perrysburg Lands and Sanitation Greg Kuhr explained.
The city says the money for the project came from grants and fundraising.
