TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Walmart is helping with the fight against hunger in Toledo in the form of $50,000.
Currently, more than 93,000 people in Lucas County alone are dealing with a shortage of food. They need all the help they can get so Walmart is giving them a boost.
Two checks were presented Thursday at the Walmart on Central Avenue. A check for $40,000 will go towards the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. A check for $10,000 will help the program feed Lucas County children.
A top 20 finish in Walmart's "Fighting Hunger Together" Facebook campaign earned the city's winnings. Toledo received nearly 5,000 votes. Just a simple click of the mouse will feed thousands of people in the community.
Walmart's hunger campaign is expected to generate 42 million meals across the country.
