Report of attempted abduction in Hancock County a misunderstanding

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) – Police say what was initially reported as a possible attempted abduction in Liberty Township was in fact just a misunderstanding.

On Tuesday the Hancock County Sheriff's Department released information about a possible attempted abduction in the Dold Division in Liberty Township.  Police said at that time a child had been followed down the sidewalk on Dold Dr. by an elderly man before running to a neighbor's house.

On Wednesday, police returned to the street on a report of a man matching the description of the suspect walking down the street.  The suspect was identified by the child, but upon further investigation was found to be an elderly man with Alzheimer's disease who lives in the area.  Police say the man was on a walk and no foul play was involved in the incident.
