United Auto Workers honor the outstanding

The United Auto Workers honored outstanding students on Wednesday in Maumee, when high school seniors received scholarships.

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) - The United Auto Workers honored outstanding students on Wednesday in Maumee, when high school seniors received scholarships.

Ten students were awarded $10,000 worth of scholarship money each at the Richard T. Gosser scholarship awards program.

All the seniors who applied for the scholarships had to be sons and daughters of members of UAW region 2B. An 8 member committee then selected the winners.

Recipient Kelsey Lortz says this boost of funds helps make her plans for college much clearer:

"I've always known that I was planning on going to college.  But, I mean the financial burden is heavy and this definitely helps me to attend Bowling Green State University, and that means the world to me."

Two hundred and seventy five students, including this year's winners, have received the Gosser scholarships, which totals more than a million dollars to help high school seniors have a shot at higher education.
