BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) - It is opening day for the downtown Bowling Green Farmers' Market. Organizers said people who have gone in the past may not recognize it this season because of many new features.
The market will have new vendors, more space, and even a new location, which is why organizers expect this year's opening to be busier than ever.
The 2012 farmers' market season is already under way. On Wednesday, vendors set up in their new location in the Huntington Bank parking lot, just off of Main Street. May 16 through Oct. 17 the farmers' market will run every Wednesday starting at 4 p.m.
Organizers said they changed locations because they have more vendors this year and are expecting a larger turnout.
The farmers' market will still have live music and entertainment, along with fresh food and locally-grown produce.
Organizers feel the market adds a sense of community to Bowling Green and gives people a chance to support local farmers.
"It's just kinda crazy when you live in farm country. Why not just support your neighbors and the land that you live on and get your food right where it's grown, instead of having it shipped so far? So it's good. You're supporting your neighbors. You're supporting your local farmers," explained Penny Parker, farmers' market general manager.
The market's season opening day will have music and food until 8 p.m.
