Hollywood casino chooses local meat supplier

ELMORE, OH (Toledo News Now) - It came as a surprise to the owners at Tank Meats, Inc., when representatives from the Hollywood Casino Toledo contacted them about becoming a supplier for the casino's restaurants last fall.

"We were kind of hoping- not something we were expecting," said co-owner Eric Amstutz. "They wanted to go through and see what we could do.  They showed up on a Saturday morning, took an impromptu tour of the business and they just kept following up.  They were quite interested."

Tanks Meats has already started supplying custom sausages and bacons for the casino as it prepares for its public grand opening on May 29th.  Amstutz said the orders are expected to be large enough the business is thinking of hiring more employees.

"I think it's great.  Anytime a big company or corporation that comes in from out of town and makes a point to go and support the local businesses and whatnot, I think it's beneficial for everybody," said Amstutz.

Tanks is one of several local businesses that will be supplying goods for Hollywood Casino Toledo's restaurants.  Executive Chef Brian Hein said the casino will also work with Chef's Garden for produce out of Huron.

"Local for us generally transitions into fast... When we get into those 'oh no' moments- when we run out or we're short on something- we can recover faster.  And besides that, I like to keep what dollars we can here.  It's about community also," said Hein.

Amstutz hopes the Casino's orders will boost business and introduce new customers to Tanks Meats.
