TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Providence Center located on Western and Broadway is in danger of closing once funding from the United Way runs out.
The Providence Center serves as a hub for the south Toledo Community, providing educational and recreational programs to the residents. Most notably, it serves as a federally funded child and adult care food program.
The two year $75,000 grant the providence house gets from the United Way will run out on June 30, and employees are devastated to hear the news.
Representatives from the United Way of Greater Toledo say the two year grant was given to the Providence Center as an opportunity to study urban gardening and social entrepreneurship. In that time they were supposed to also look for alternative funding sources or re-focus efforts to fit the United Way's mission.
Now with less than 2 months to go, the Providence Center is looking for help from the community to raise about $35,000 to keep operations going until Toledo Area Ministries can step in to help.
