BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) – The mother of a child who died May 5 at the Wood County Hospital has been arrested and charged with child endangering.

Police say Rebecca Steinmiller, 25, discovered a serious injury to 3-month-old Carter Steinmiller's arm four days before his death.  According to court documents, Steinmiller suspected the child's arm was broken, but did not alert medical or law enforcement officials for four days.

It was later discovered that the child's arm was in fact broken. Carter died May 5 at Wood County Hospital after someone called 911 at the family's home in Plain Township.

"We have probable cause to believe that she did know her baby's arm was broken and she failed to take any action to get the child help," said Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn "That occurred days before the child died."

Steinmiller faces up to three years in prison if convicted on the charge. She is currently being held in the Wood County Justice Center.
