TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Fox show Cops is set to begin shooting in the Toledo starting in August, showing off the work of the Toledo Police Department to a national audience.
Crews are set to begin shooting August 7, and continue all the way through the end of September.
Producers from the show met with police Chief Derrick Diggs and other city officials at the beginning of this year, and the chief gave the green light for the show to film locally. Two crews of two people will ride along with officers on varying shifts.
Producers for the show did have to fill out waiver forms, but police say they don't expect a major impact on the department. They say it's an opportunity to showcase the work of the department.
"The professionalism the officers have out on the street and also give some awareness, appreciation maybe to the citizens of Toledo, of some of the things officers have to deal with during their tour of duty." Sergeant Joe Heffernan explained.
The footage shot in Toledo will likely air in the next season of the show, which is slated to begin in the Fall of 2013.
