Maumee may install electric vehicle chargers

Green vehicles could soon be making a pit stop in Maumee. The city is looking at installing electric vehicle chargers.

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) - Green vehicles could soon be making a pit stop in Maumee. The city is looking at installing electric vehicle chargers.

If Maumee City Council were to approve the project, people with electric cars would be able to charge up on the go. The city was approached by a private company about the outlets. Success Charging USA is a local company. The company is hoping to set up outlets in both public and private areas in Maumee.

Drivers would pay a fee to use the chargers. The company would be responsible for installing and maintaining the charges, and the city could get a portion of the revenue.

"At this point and time, they are somewhat slow sellers, but it's thought by 2020 that they'll make up approximately 15% of the vehicle fleet in the United States. So they would be cutting edge at this point," said John Jezak, the Maumee City Administrator.

The proposal first came up at the Maumee City Council meeting Monday night. It was sent to committee for further consideration.
