PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) – A Perrysburg boy may be the youngest person ever to create his own mobile application.
Jonathan Buchanan, 10, was upset he could only play a game called "Chip Trading" at school, so he wrote a program to run the game on apple devices.
Jonathan's parents say he began reading computer programming books at the age of 6, and has been hooked ever since.
The application teaches kids multiplication, division, equations and pairs. Jonathan says it only took him about two weeks to create the app, which he did completely on his own. His parents did not even know he was working on the app until it was nearly finished.
"As far as we know, the youngest developer that has done it completely independent, on his own is 12," said Renee Buchanan, Jonathan's mother. "So as far as we can tell just from our own Google searches, he may be the youngest developer, as of today."
The app became available on May 5, and at ninety nine cents per download, already has more than a dozen users.
"I hope teachers all around the world will be able to use it to help their students. And, I like it from, kids like me and my friends to use too," said Jonathan. "It's a really fun game to play."
To download the app, just search "ChipTrading" on an iPhone, iPad or iPod.
