Death of Wood County infant called suspicious

PLAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - The death of a 3-month-old baby in Wood County is being called suspicious.

It all started Saturday evening when the sheriff's office said it got a 911 call for a 3-month-old in Plain Township, which is just north of Bowling Green.

Emergencies crews could not revive the child, who was pronounced dead at Wood County Hospital.

"The baby was unconscious. One of my deputies went out and did CPR on the baby and, unfortunately, was unable to resuscitate him," said Wood County Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn.

Investigators will not say why they believe the death is suspicious.

The sheriff's office said it has not made any arrests yet.

The baby's body has been transported to the Lucas County Coroner's Office. The coroner said autopsy information is unavailable. When it is, the Wood County Sheriff's Office said the reports will determine the rest of the investigation.

This is not the first case of its kind in the area. The Wood County Prosecutor's Office is investigating severe injuries to a 5-month-old. Bowling Green police are looking into the homicide of a 2-year-old girl.
