TOLEDO, OH (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - Fifth Third Bank and the Mud Hens are joining forces to collect food this weekend in support of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger program.
Fans attending the Mud Hens home games Thursday, May 3 through Sunday, May 6 are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the ballpark. Boxes will be readily available at all entrances and the donated food will be distributed locally through Toledo Seagate Food Bank.
Fifth Third chose the food drive as this year's bank-wide service project in honor of Fifth Third Day which occurs annually on May 3. Fifth Third Bancorp hopes to provide more than 53,000 meals as part of the Fifth Third Day celebrations. One pound of food can provide two meals and four meals can be supplied from each dollar raised.
The NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will officially be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Letter Carriers are asking every home to leave non-perishable food items near their mailbox prior to their mail delivery that day. Now in its 20th year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation's largest single-day food drive. In 2011, drive organizers across the country collected more than 70 million pounds of total food donations for the eighth consecutive year.
