Police radio tapes give insight into Cracker Barrel shootings

Police radio tapes tell us more about what happened when a man shot and killed his wife, killed one of this children and critically wounded the other.

It happened at the Cracker Barrel in Brooklyn Thursday night.

Police say Kevin Allen opened fire, killing wife Katie Allen and daughter Kerri.  Kayla Allen remains in critical condition at Metro.

Police first said officers pulled up and heard shooting.  But the radio tapes show officers pulled up just before the gunfire.  They also indicate police did not go into the restaurant as Kevin Allen was firing his shotgun.  Instead they set up on the outside of the restaurant waiting for him.  Sources tell us bursting into the restaurant could have led to more deaths or a possible hostage situation.

State agents are investigating Allen's actions and the police response to the shooting.

Police ended up shooting and killing Allen.
