Parents at Toledo's Harvard Elementary School received an alarming letter from the principal about a man who approached children near the school. Parents contacted WTOL 11 with concerns that there was more to the story.

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – Parents at Toledo's Harvard Elementary School received an alarming letter from the principal about a man who approached children near the school. Parents contacted WTOL 11 with concerns that there was more to the story.

A police report said a 13-year-old boy was on his way to Harvard Elementary Thursday morning when he noticed a man walking towards him. The teen told police he started to run and believed the man, wearing a red Mud Hens jacket, was chasing him. The student ran to Wixey Bakery, where employees called the police. The man offered several other children in the bakery a doughnut, and later told police he did not mean to cause alarm.

Bakery employees said the man is a regular customer there and they have not had issues with him in the past. Police sources said the man in question does not have any previous history with the Toledo Police Department and did not do anything criminal in the situation.

School leaders said they sent the letter home to be proactive and remind parents to talk to their children about strangers.
