TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – An employee at H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home in west Toledo is under investigation for allegedly fondling a corpse.
Family members of a 51 year old woman clung to each other for support after learning that their loved one may have been the victim of the employee after her death.
The family immediately called the police, and the victim's body has been moved to another funeral home.
A spokesperson for H.H. Birkenkamp says the incident involved a non-licensed, part time employee, and when the funeral home became aware of the incident on Sunday, they made the decision to tell the family before going to the police.
Funeral plans for the woman are now on hold, as a police investigation into possible felony charges continues. The Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors is aware of the incident, and has launched an investigation. H.H. Birkenkamp has fired the employee.
Meanwhile, the family is left waiting to bury their loved one peacefully.
