Chrysler reports best February sales since 2008

AUBURN HILLS, MI (WTOL) – According to Chrysler Group LLC, the Jeep brand has posted its best February sales since 2008, with an increase of 40 percent compared to February 2011. All of the models have increased more than 20 percent.

Chrysler reported U.S. sales of 135,521 units in February 2012, compared to 95,102 units in 2011. The company has beaten the auto industry's average sales increase in each month over the last year.

All five Jeep brand models posted double-digit percentage sales gains. Grand Cherokee increased 47 percent. Wrangler increased 22 percent. Liberty increased 25 percent.

Dodge Ram pickup truck sales also were up 21 percent in February, making the 22nd consecutive month of sales gains.

The Chrysler brand as a whole had sales increase 114 percent.

"Our product portfolio now contains some of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in our company's history, driving our sales up 40 percent in February," explained Reid Bigland, president and CEO of the Dodge brand and head of U.S. sales. "A few years ago higher fuel prices were a major threat to our total vehicle sales, whereas today those higher prices have become far less of an issue. We now have 13 vehicles with an EPA-rated highway fuel economy of 25 mpg or higher, and six of those vehicles get 31 mpg or higher."
