Scott High School re-opens its doors

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Scott High School students finally return home for classes on Monday.

Students have been studying at the old Devilbus High School for the last two years while Scott undergoes a $42 million facelift.

Friday night, thousands of fans attended the first basketball game in the old Ben Williams Fieldhouse that has also been given a new lease on life.

"I'm kind of jealous. When we were here, nothing like this. I'm jealous right now." says former Scott student Richard Jones.

"I think it's beautiful." adds Jerome Smith.

It's been a long haul for those who follow and support the Bulldogs basketball program. The recently completed multi-million dollar remodeling of Scott High School forced the team to play on the road for two years.

That slowed down efforts of the booster club to raise money for the school's athletic program.

"We've been having to go to Start, Rogers and do 50/50 raffles over there. We've been kind of struggling." according to Booster Club member Reginald Waters.

The most notable change about the fieldhouse is its openness. You are now able to look out the windows that were once covered overlooking the basketball court. The lobby area is also bigger and more spacious.

"It gives you a sense of pride because you know they put so much into this building and the community has done so much for the students of Scott High School." says school principal Treva Jeffries.

That pride shines at a new souvenir stand in the lobby area. The most popular T-shirt reads "There's no place like home. Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog."
