TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – After a 78 year old Toledo woman's house was trashed by tenants, Home Depot helped her with the repairs, and saved her what would have cost thousands of dollars.
Joan Duritsky, a local widow who says she is not very handy, couldn't believe the condition of her house after the renters moved out:
"It was in shambles. It was filthy. I didn't even recognize it and I just sat down and cried." adding there were broken cabinets, the carpet was soaked, and the bathroom toilet was broken.
Joan and her friend Ed made a trip to the Home Depot store on Secor Road to get an idea of what it would cost to fix everything, when she says employees Chuck and April came up to help them.
"Here's a woman whose been giving her whole life. She was a teacher. Took care of her husband who was dying from a drastic disease and she's been giving." explained Chuck Johnson.
The two Home Depot employees were so touched by Joan's situation that they got the store to donate new kitchen cabinets, flooring and a bathroom. Six employees even volunteered to do the repairs.
The store only asked Joan for one thing in return:
"All she has to do is continue to keep giving back. She's been doing it her whole life and I think she's taught all of us a lot of good lessons." Chuck said.
Joan said that will be easy to do, because she sees the volunteers as angels who came to her rescue. It took two days to remodel the house.
