TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Governor John Kasich made a couple of stops on Friday in Northwest Ohio, to tout some new business developments and new jobs in the area.
Kasich helped to cut the ceremonial ribbon at BX Solutions, the new ground cargo sorting center which began operations in November 2011. It is located inside the former BAX Global air cargo hub which closed in July 2011, and 201 of the 250 employees are former BAX workers.
"What we really need instead of a ribbon cutting ceremony, we should have lemons and squeeze them into lemonade because that's what happened here." says Kasich.
"To date, BX Solutions has paid in excess of $1.3 million back to the community with a commitment to maximize local Ohio services." says Chris Marshall, BX Solutions President, CEO.
"It's been great, to get together with a great group of people. We've enjoyed putting this together, getting it started." says BX Solutions employee Deb Griffin.
"Working here is great. Having a boss like Chris who talks to us every day. He's the president of the company. That makes a huge difference." says BX Solutions employee Mike Watson.
Governor Kasich also visited the new Hamlet Protein factory in Findlay, to welcome the Denmark-based company which makes protein supplements for animal feed, and the 25 new jobs there.
"They're here for a bunch of reasons. We've got great farmers, great agriculture."
Kasich says the new businesses are adding to a growing list of positive developments across the state.
"We're beginning to win. We lost 400,000 jobs in the last 4 years, 600,000 in the last 10. We're up 44,000 net jobs last year. We're growing jobs instead of losing jobs."
