SOUTH TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – A conference between Toledo Public School administrators and a student's family turned violent. The student's brother faces charges for threatening an assistant principal.

A conference turned into a confrontation inside an administrative office at Byrnedale Elementary School two weeks ago.

On Friday, the man accused of threatening an assistant principal and destroying school property faced a judge. Jordan Forrest, 20, has been charged with assault upon a teacher, menacing, and criminal damaging. Forrest pleaded not guilty on all counts.

Forrest is the brother of a Byrnedale student and was taking part in a conference with school officials.

The district would not go into details about the meeting, but said it took place during school hours.

According to court documents, Forrest became angry and threatened Assistant Principal Jay Young. Officials also said Forrest kicked a ceramic bulldog statue, destroying it, and put nearby children in danger. The statue was one of the only items brought over from the former Byrnedale building.

TPS officials said this is an exception to the rule, and usually issues can be resolved at the school level.

"Whenever there's a safety threat to children, we take that very seriously and we take the appropriate measures to do that. But at the end of the day, like I said, we want to make sure our parents are included in the process," explained Jim Gault, TPS chief academic officer.

Forrest posted bail and was released, but was ordered to have no contact with Byrnedale's assistant principal.
