Hollywood Casino Toledo offers media first look at interior

EAST TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Hollywood Casino Toledo gave the media a chance to tour the inside of the building to see how far along construction has come as it nears completion.

The Vice President of Marketing, Jason Birney, explained what the media should expect to see on the tour.

"You'll see the finishing touches being worked on with the buffet. You'll see the finishing touches with the poker room. It's really coming along. Slot bases are being laid for slot machines, so it's really coming along. I think everybody is going to be excited to see how far along it is," said Birney.

The expansive 125,000 square foot gaming floor has no slot machines in place yet, but has the bases in place.

The general manager said final placement of carpeting and slot machines will be done in a matter of days.

The media also got to see some of the eateries featured inside the casino, from Epic Buffet and Final Cut, a high-end steak and seafood restaurant, to a grab-and-go burger joint.

Décor of the casino is reminiscent of a 1930s art deco Hollywood Motif with murals of Marilyn Monroe.

Still, the inside of the casino has not been a complete secret. The casino's Facebook page has shown pictures of the progression from time to time.

Vice President and Assistant General Manager, Mike Galle, believes locals will feel a sense of pride when entering the casino.

"90 percent of our employee base is going to be local. Locally trained, locally hired. And when they get on the casino floor the service level that is going to be provided from their local community, ya know, the local employees in this community. So I think that that is the wow factor," said Galle.

For construction alone, 2,100 local workers were employed in building the casino. Once the casino opens, 1,200 local employees will work full and part-time hours with 90 percent being local residents.

Construction is expected to be completed, based on the occupancy permit, by mid March. The grand opening was first scheduled for early April. Although that start date will not be met, casino officials expect the opening to only be delayed by weeks. Officials said they should know their target date by the end of June.
