NAPOLEON, OH (WTOL) – The small city of Napoleon, Ohio is home to fewer than 10,000 residents. In a town where everybody knows everybody, a young girl's murder is truly taken to heart.
Gathered at Glenwood Park Tuesday night, friends, neighbors, and family remembered Katie Nagel. Nagel was described as popular, and friends say she loved to dance.
"When she worked at Chief grocery store, she made conversation with everyone who came through her line whether she knew them or not. She was just that type of person...she was open, happy, positive," said Beth Trembach.
"She was bright and bubbly and fun and she was awesome to be around," explained Erica Gonzalez.
Those words make it even harder to accept what happened to the 19-year-old.
Nagel was found stabbed to death on Monday morning at her fiancé's parent's home. Michael Peddicord, her fiancé, is jail, and has been charged with the murder.
"I told my wife not to think of her...what they said on the news, not to think of the way she was killed, ..but think of her as an angel...as an angel looking down," said Jack Trembach.
According to friends, Katie's family has been through more than their fair share of tragedy. The Nagel family lost another daughter in a car accident.
"I can't imagine. I hope god finds a way to ease their pain. Good people are hard to find, and they are good people," said Jack Trembach.
"Everyone should know that she was a beautiful and awesome person," Gonzalez told WTOL.
At the vigil, several people made a special point to say that they were also thinking about Mikey's family at this difficult time. Peddicord is in jail on a $2 million bond and is charged with murder. He is scheduled to be back in court January 26.
